Many women are victimized by assault and rape in the
United States every day. According to the online text every two minutes someone
in America is sexually assaulted and 1 out of every six American women are
victims of an attempted or completed rape (Sexual Assault Response Services of
Southern Maine [SARSSM], n.d.). To reduce the risk of being raped or of getting assaulted women need to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings, avoid isolated
areas when alone, and carry a cell phone or a whistle (Alexander, LaRosa, Bader,
& Garfield, 2010). Women can also take self defense classes, carry pepper spray and a stun gun, in the event of an attack, so that they can flee from their attacker. Watch out for relationships that are controlling, because this could lead to being pressured or forced into having sex. Make sure that when you say no, that your body language and verbal language are in line with that answer. Please don't play games with these men this is a serious matter you can end up hurt. The items outlined above will greatly reduce the chances
of women being assaulted or raped.

Great post Jeannine by sharing the statistics of women being assaulted in the U.S. If a woman doesn't feel comfortable with her surroundings it is best to leave and go to a safe place. Always trust your instincts in any situation. Nice touch with the graphic picture.
ReplyDeleteHello Jeannine ,
ReplyDeleteI think this was a great post , it was very informative and I learned a lot. I like how you gave different ways that women can protect themselves and showed the statistics. I did not know that every two minutes someone is assaulted. That is really scary and makes you want to find ways to protect yourself. Great job and I really think the picture you choose went perfect with this.
This is a great post. Thank you for sharing these statistics. It is very alarming and sad, but it is also information that every women should know. I completely agree with your post. When you think of assault most people do not think of relationship assault first. You made a great point that the one that you love a assault you as well. We as women need to be smart and always trust our instincts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for including the segment about relationships and communication.
